Delta Fly Fishers come up BIG for CSPA with $1,300 contributionMarch 19, 2009 -- Realizing the threat to California's fisheries, especially the California Delta and the collapse of the salmon runs on the Mokelumne, the board of directors of the Delta Fly Fishers voted to contribute $1,300 to CSPA's coffers at their board meeting on Wednesday night. The Delta Fly Fishers and CSPA have a long history of working together to save California's fisheries. CSPA's Bill Jennings was a member of the Delta Fly Fishers and led them in organizing the Committee to Save the Mokelumne, a successful effort that resulted in a series of agreements with EBMUD and Woodbridge Irrigation District that saw salmon runs increase from less than a dozen fish to a height of 10,7000 in 2004. Sadly those runs have since declined and CSPA, with the help of the Delta Fly Fishers, will revisit that fishery and the issues that surround the collapse. In the years that followed, the Delta Fly Fishers consistently demonstrated their dedication to California's fisheries with regular contributions to CSPA. This latest, the last in a long string of support. CSPA is honored that this relationship has continued all these years and promises to use the money as wisely as possible to provide California anglers with increased fishing opportunities and clean water for the fish to swim in. |
