{"id":1360,"date":"2016-12-11T13:25:24","date_gmt":"2016-12-11T21:25:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/calsport.org\/fisheriesblog\/?p=1360"},"modified":"2016-12-11T13:25:24","modified_gmt":"2016-12-11T21:25:24","slug":"longfin-smelt-are-really-nearly-gone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/calsport.org\/fisheriesblog\/?p=1360","title":{"rendered":"Longfin Smelt are Really Nearly Gone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In previous posts, I <a href=\"http:\/\/calsport.org\/fisheriesblog\/?p=844\">described<\/a> the poor status of longfin smelt in the Bay-Delta estuary.\u00a0 In my last longfin <a href=\"http:\/\/calsport.org\/fisheriesblog\/?p=859\">post<\/a> in April, I recommended a higher prescribed June Delta outflow, but none occurred.\u00a0 June outflow was a bare minimum daily 7000 cfs.\u00a0 As it turns out, it may not have done much good because there were simply too few spawners available this year (Figure 1).\u00a0 The Fall Midwater Trawl Index (Recruits) was at a record low as in 2015.\u00a0 The spawner indices for 2017 and 2018 will be less than 0.6, which is so low that few if any recruits will be produced.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1361\" style=\"width: 594px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/calsport.org\/fisheriesblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/longfin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1361\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1361\" src=\"http:\/\/calsport.org\/fisheriesblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/longfin-1024x896.jpg\" alt=\"Figure 1.
