CSPA and other fishing groups request FERC rehearing on Tuolumne River flows

May 5, 2008.

On April 3, 2008, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued an order that keeps flows on the Tuolumne River status quo until 2016. In 2007, 211 or fewer salmon made it back to the river to spawn. Summer flows in the Tuolumne are too low for steelhead and resident trout. In the face of the catastrophic decline of salmon on the Tuolumne, and the intransigence both of FERC and the operators of the New Don Pedro Reservoir upstream, CSPA and other angler and conservation groups filed a request for rehearing on May 5.

The Rehearing Request states in part: "Under the Order, the Districts will operate for a 50-year term according to a license that is not best adapted to a comprehensive plan of development for all beneficial uses. This is outrageous." (Read the complete request)
