CSPA Submits Comments on Landfill in Stanislaus County

CSPA submitted comments on an inadequate Cease and Desist Order regarding the Geer Road Class III landfill that is owned and maintained by Stanislaus County.  The 168-acre landfill contains more than 4.5 million tons of waste and has polluted underlying groundwater with volatile organic compounds and inorganic constituents.  The landfill is adjacent to the Tuolumne River, groundwater flows toward the river and there is documented hydraulic continuity between groundwater and the Tuolumne.

Given that the operators have egregiously failed to comply with their waste discharge requirements and refused to assess potential impacts to the river, CSPA believes monetary penalties are clearly warranted.
